INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Denied Myself Ministry!
formerly Layhands.com

"Mr. Dave Root Jr., the original author of this site was really a man after God's own heart. I regularly visit his website, but suddenly, I can't access it anymore. I feel sad about it and suddenly got worried about Mr. Dave's condition. I do hope he is doing great wherever he is now as well as his family. Since the original Layhands.com domain was owned by somebody else and they are selling it at a price that's impossible for me to afford, I prayed and decided to register a different domain instead, the reason why Mr. Dave's articles are now on DeniedMyself.com.

The domain may look or sound silly, but it was the name I heard from God after I asked Him for it. Also "Self-denial" (Luke 9:23) was the yearning of my heart ever since I became a Christian. I believe Mr. Dave's work helped a lot and will help more people in knowing and loving our Lord Jesus Christ. Now, I'm not really a good writer or anything and English is not even my native language. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I will try to add more articles and if necessary update the original one. I'm also currently improving this site to be mobile-friendly, so that anyone can read the articles on their mobile devices with ease. Wherever you are now Mr. Dave, I do hope and pray you're doing great as well as your family and still following after God's own heart, Thank You. All for Your glory our Lord Jesus Christ!" -- Arman

Where to Begin?

If you're not a Christian:

Wondering what's the deal with Christianity? Take a look at my article called Why Should Anyone Become a Christian?.

If you are a Christian:

Consider starting with these articles:

  1. How to Hear the Voice of God
  2. One of the most important things we can learn is how to discern God's leading in our daily lives. This article will give you practical guidance in how to hear God's voice.

  3. Are You Sure You Believe what the Bible Says?
  4. Years ago, God showed me that if we want to see the full picture of a jigsaw puzzle, then we need to use all of the puzzle pieces and fit them together properly. Similarly, if we want to see the full picture of a doctrine in the Bible then we should find as many pieces of Scripture as possible for that doctrine and fit them together properly. This article makes it clear how important it is to be thorough and objective when we study the Bible.

  5. How Do You Study the Bible?
  6. After the Lord showed me the analogy of a jigsaw puzzle (above), I began studying the Bible differently. Now I pick a topic and search the Bible to find all of the passages on that topic in order to see the full picture. This article describes in detail how I study the Bible, and it provides practical guidance for your own Bible studies.

  7. How to Be Certain That You Will Go to Heaven
  8. This article will help you to be absolutely certain that you will go to heaven when you die.

Do You Believe What the Bible Says?

Many years ago, God rocked my Christian world. He showed me that I didn't believe what the Bible says because I didn't know what the Bible says about certain things! Sure, I had absorbed various opinions and biases and views from family, friends, and church, just like everyone else has. But think about it for a moment. The people that we absorbed our views from, do they really understand what the Bible says about those things? Maybe not!

Notice that if we want to see the full picture of a jigsaw puzzle, we need to use all of the puzzle pieces (and fit them together properly). Similarly, if we want to see the full picture of a doctrine in the Bible then we should find as many pieces of Scripture as possible for that doctrine (and we should fit them together properly).

After God showed me these things, I began studying the Bible differently. Now I pick a topic and search the Bible to find all of the passages on that topic in order to see the full picture. By trying to be prayerful, honest, thorough, and objective, I realized that I needed to discard many of my preconceived views because the Scriptural evidence doesn't support those views. Being thorough means that my articles tend to be rather long, but being thorough and listening closely to the Holy Spirit helps us to be more accurate than if we base our views on just a few passages.
